Line items that fit design work
Use separate rows when the commercial terms differ.
| Line item | What it can cover |
|---|---|
| Brand identity design | Discovery, visual direction, logo system, and agreed brand assets. |
| UI mockups and iterations | Specified screens and the revision rounds included in scope. |
| Production assets | Export preparation, resizing, print-ready files, or handoff packages. |
| Licensed resources | Approved stock imagery, fonts, or other reimbursable third-party assets. |
Make revision scope visible before it becomes a dispute
Creative projects often become difficult to invoice when the proposal says “design” but does not define what completion means. Describe the agreed deliverable, the number of included concepts or revision rounds, and the rate or approval process for additional work. If the project uses milestones, invoice the deposit, concept approval, and final handoff as separate stages rather than presenting an unexplained total at the end.
Keep licensing language separate from the design fee. A client may be paying for a limited usage licence, an exclusive licence, or a full copyright assignment depending on the contract and jurisdiction. The invoice can reference the applicable agreement, but it should not silently invent rights that were never agreed. Third-party fonts, imagery, printing, and production costs should also be itemized when they are reimbursable.
